With decades of experience in hospitality (and still going strong), Michael E. — the general manager of Elara, a Hilton Grand Vacations Club, in Las Vegas — has plenty of insights from his career. “The best decision I ever made was making the jump over to HGV,” he said. “Our products are superior, and I appreciate our focus on service and Team Members.”

While other Team Members have shared the reasons they love working for HGV — from the positive work culture, comprehensive suite of benefits, the potential for career growth and supportive teams — Michael has found volunteering to be a rewarding part of his career.

In 2017, Deloitte found that a majority of employees (89%) believe company-sponsored volunteer activities generate more positive working environments. Because of this, job-seekers look for companies that align with their personal values.

“It makes me proud to see HGV and myself tightly aligned with my personal values,” he said, as opposed to corporate values that simply look great on paper. “HGV Serves puts our values into action,” he added.

What is HGV Serves? It’s Hilton Grand Vacations’ corporate social responsibility program. “It’s part of our commitment to care for our Owners, Guests, Team Members and our community. HGV Serves allows us to go out, volunteer and create some positive change,” Michael explained. Some of the causes HGV Serves supports include disaster relief, homelessness, youth development and veterans.

Earlier this year, Michael and Las Vegas-based Team Members took time to partner with the USO and put together 3,500 care packages for deployed service members. “I’m excited by how well the USO event went; it was such a good time, and it’s a great cause. I’ve had a number of Team Members who have served in the past, and we’re proud to support veterans and deployed soldiers. Plus, it was fun to come together as Team Members, from resort operations to sales, marketing and corporate offices. We were able to invite Team Members to participate and make an impact together,” he said.

“We could have finished 5,000 care packages easily,” Michael said with a laugh. “We want to do it again soon, and we’ve got our eyes to set a goal to put together 10,000.”

Because for Michael, at the end of the day, his job is about helping people: “My goal is to take care of our Team Members, Owners, Guests and the resorts. But really, the responsibility to represent all these people and try to create an enjoyable place for them to come to work or on vacation and know they are valued. It’s exciting to know you’re making a difference at work and in the community.”
